Michael Milnes is a physical therapist who has been working in the field since 1996. He currently serves the community of Rochester, Minnesota, and has been working there ever since he received his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Minnesota. Here are three exercises people can perform in order to regain mobility after an injury.
One exercise you can do is swimming. Swimming is a great way to get your muscles back to their normal mobility levels after an injury, and strengthen your body at the same time. Muscle strength protects you from further injury, and it will help injured areas become more stable. The water acts as a soft resistance for your body, and it makes is extremely difficult to cause further damage from strain.
Another exercise you can do is weight training. Weight training, much like swimming, encourages muscle growth and strength, which will protect you from injury in the future. It will also break down scar tissue in the injured areas through repetition and movement. Although weight training is more strenuous than swimming, it’s still helpful when it comes to regaining your mobility after an acute condition.
The last exercise you can do is yoga. A number of physical therapists have been noticing the benefits to practicing yoga because it makes your body more flexible. Flexibility is important in order to keep from injuring yourself in the future, and it will also help take some of the stress off your joints when performing other movements in your everyday life.
Michael Milnes is dedicated to helping his patients in any way that he can physically.
